ABOUT THE COURSE

Course Description

The Islamic studies course is predicated on instilling a thorough study of the Qur’an since it is the text which serves as the authoritative medium of understanding the religion on Islam. The course is designed to allow the students to grow their knowledge of the Qur’anic paradigm on belief, legislation and ethics, comportment, leadership, and service to family, community and humanity at large. By emphasizing rational thinking and employing research and analytical skills, students will be encouraged to arrive at conclusions that help them better comprehend Islam as a total way of life.

This will include an understanding of:

  1. The message of the Qur’an and its interpretation. (Tafsir)
  2. The concept of Allah, His unity, attributes and our relationship to Him. (Tawheed, Fiqh and Supplications.)
  3. The Qur’anic laws, duties and principles, which the Prophet exemplified in his life as essentials for Righteous living. (Qur’anic injunctions, Seerah of the Prophet— including Hadith and Sunnah.)
  4. Muslim responsibility and contribution to the broader community.
